Wrapping Up Summer: Paper Planes, Playful Art, and Backwards Fun

Last Week of Summer Club: Adventures and Creativity

As the summer draws to a close, our final week of the Summer Club was packed with creativity, exploration, and a lot of fun. Here's a look at our adventures during the last week.

Morning of Paper Aeroplanes

We kicked off the week with a morning dedicated to the timeless art of paper aeroplanes. Everyone had a blast crafting their own unique designs, with some soaring gracefully and others—well, not so much! But the real fun began when a few of our aeroplanes found themselves stuck in the frame. Instead of giving up, we put our heads together and came up with inventive ways to retrieve them. After several attempts using a broom, we finally succeeded! To celebrate our victory, we took a well-deserved trip to the local ice cream shop, where everyone enjoyed a delicious treat.

Folk Week Fun at the Bandstand

We took a walk to the bandstand to join the Folk Week Hobby Horse Club. The theme of the day was "Backwards," and we fully embraced it! From playing our favorite games in reverse to watching the Morris men and women perform their dances backwards, it was a day full of laughter and surprises. The backwards theme added a quirky twist to everything we did, making it one of the most memorable days of the summer.

Train Trip to Ramsgate's Ellington Park

Midweek, we boarded a train for an exciting trip to Ramsgate. Our destination was Ellington Park, where we enjoyed some playtime in the playground and a lovely picnic lunch. The park's wide-open spaces gave everyone the chance to run around, explore, and enjoy the beautiful weather. The train ride itself was an adventure, with everyone excitedly pointing out sights along the way.

Exploring Art at Turner Contemporary, Margate

We visited the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery in Margate. The highlight of the visit was exploring the sensory bags, which perfectly complemented the artists' work. These interactive experiences made the artwork come alive, especially for the younger members of the group. Afterward, we spent time playing in the children’s sculpture playscape, where creativity knew no bounds as everyone engaged with the playful structures.

Folk Week Fun at the Bandstand Again!

Later in the week, we returned to the Hobby Horse Club for "Superhero Day." The excitement was through the roof as everyone dressed up and joined in the superhero parade, striking their best superhero poses. We also had a blast dancing and playing games with our favorite superheroes. The day was topped off by a dance led by a Morris dancing group, where we joined in the fun with some of our nursery friends. It was a fantastic way to round off our Folk Week celebrations!
